Previous Assemblies During Lockdown Summer 2020

HOPE (Theme One)

Lots of the materials we will be using can be accessed on The National Literacy Trust website. There is a wonderful book called "The Book of Hopes - Words and Pictures to Comfort, Inspire and Entertain Children in Lockdown." It is edited by Katherine Rundell, and has contributions from more than 100 children’s writers and illustrators
The Hope-o-potamus - This is a fun poem taken from "The Book of Hopes" and follows a hippo as he looks for water. He never gives up hope - even when his friends are telling him it is useless.

Click on the video to read the poem "Hope; or Learning the Language of Birds" by Jackie Morris and see some of the photographs that have been sent in to sum up "lock-down."

GRATITUDE (Theme Two)

Watch this video telling the story of "The Giving Tree" that we shared in Monday's assembly.

Please email us with a short (about 10 second long) video of you telling us what you are grateful for at the moment. We will create a video linking us all together to show in our assembly on Thursday. Please send it to cryan@georgegrenville.co.uk by Wednesday 10th June at 12pm.

Read the story of "The Crow and the Peacock" and find out how the crow learnt to be grateful for what he already had.

Use this gratitude scavenger hunt to  find things that will make you feel thankful for what you have.

The children have been thinking about gratitude this week in their whole school daily assemblies. In times such as these, it is important to be grateful for what we have. Watch this video to find out what the children at George Grenville Academy are grateful for.

CONNECTEDNESS (Theme Three)

Read the story of Stone Soup and learn how things can be so much better when we come together as a community.

Ms Ryan showed us a picture from "Where's Wally?" today and we had to hunt for Wally on the beach. The beach was so crowded (this was obviously before the recent pandemic) but Wally was still very much alone. We all came up with ideas how how Wally could feel more connected to the people around him. Some of us thought he could smile, others suggested he said hello. One person had a great suggestion that he could offer to help someone on the beach who was in need.  Why don't you use this picture and see if any of your family can find Wally.

We have been thinking about how we are all connected like a jigsaw puzzle and we each bring something different to our class and the school. Click on the image below to print out the jigsaw piece and decorate it to show us what you bring to your class.

Read the story of The Pigeons and The Hunter and learn how working together makes us stronger.
