Information for Parents and Carers

Moving up to secondary school can be a scary and exciting prospect. At George Grenville Academy, we work hard with our local secondary schools to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. We also build in extra transition sessions to support pupils who may find the transition more challenging than others.

Which School?

We are so lucky in Buckingham to have two great schools in our local area. Please click on the links below to visit their websites to find out more. Please note, The Royal Latin School is a grammar school and children need to qualify for a place by sitting a transfer test. All children at George Grenville Academy have the opportunity to sit the transfer test in September although parents can choose for their child to opt out if they wish. If you would like to discuss your options with your child’s class teacher, please contact them using their class email or the school office email.

Transport Arrangements

Transport is given to the nearest secondary school if:

  • You live over 3 miles away, or
  • Under 3 miles but the route is an ‘unsafe walking route’

Key Dates

Key Dates for Secondary School Entry (September 2027)
  • 1 May – 2 June 2026: Secondary Transfer Test registration window (for children not in state-funded Buckinghamshire primary schools).
  • 1 September 2026: Cut-off deadline for a new home address for grammar school preferences.
  • 7 September 2026: Official secondary school applications open (from 10:00 AM via the Buckinghamshire Citizen Portal).
  • 8 & 10 September 2026: Secondary Transfer Test (11+) practice and actual test dates for state-funded primary/partner school pupils.
  • 9 October 2026: Secondary Transfer Test results released to families.
  • 31 October 2026: Deadline for a new home address for upper/all-ability school preferences.
  • 31 October 2026: Secondary school application deadline (closes at 11:59 PM).
  • 21 November 2026: Deadline for late applications (with supporting evidence for exceptional reasons) and change of address evidence.
  • 29 January 2027: Deadline for Armed Forces/Crown Servant family applications.
  • 1 March 2027: National Offer Day – school place offers sent via email and viewable on the Citizen Portal.
