Year 6 Review steampunk macbeth
A review of Macbeth
Performed by the Oddsocks Theatre Company, At Stowe School, Tuesday 27th June By Thailia Lambourne - age 11 On Tuesday 27th June, I, my teachers and some of my classmates went to Stowe School to see a Steampunk, comedy, musical Macbeth. It was amazing! The people who performed the play were called, “Odd Socks Theatre” and they were hilarious. What made it even more humorous was when the cast added lines in: someone was fiddling with a water bottle which made a crackling sound and one of the cast said that a pain was almost as bad as a crackling water bottle; then a man walked out so an actor called after him that it was getting more interesting. They found loads of pop songs that matched with the scene they were acting out and unlike other Macbeth (by Shakespeare) productions, the added lines in and took lines out and made it more modern. I think the best bit of the play was when Fleance (my favourite character) got in little strops and didn’t really talk but showed what she was thinking by her facial expressions. There were absolutely no bits that I didn’t enjoy! Every second was entertaining! A review of Macbeth Performed by the Oddsocks Theatre Company, At Stowe School, Tuesday 27th June By Kasia Busala - age 11 On Tuesday (27th June), my classmates and I got to go to the amazing Steampunk, comedy Macbeth musical! We were all crying with laughter all the way through, thanks to Oddsocks. I even got to be part of Burnham Wood! One thing that definitely stood out, to my surprise, was how they just reacted to the audience or mistakes on-stage but still made the show flow naturally! Maybe some people think Shakespearean plays shouldn’t be changed but once everyone sees Oddsocks’ charisma, they’ll think differently! It was all still Macbeth but they made several changes and tweaks. These included: more casual lines, adapting to mistakes and turning it into a comedic version! However, the main feature I liked was the overall Steampunk theme, throughout, well, everything. And, as the plot went on, I noticed that they added in modern songs and phrases, like “oy” or a One Direction song. Concluding my review, I absolutely encourage everyone to check these guys out! They’re awesome actors! As an 11 year-old, I assume, since my fun levels were full, that other children and most definitely adults with my sense of humour, will love them too. Personally, I don’t think there is anything the Oddsocks Theatre Company can do to improve their work! |
Library visit

We are committed to developing our children as life-long readers, at Grenville, and are always looking for new reading opportunities. So, in the Autumn Term, EVERY class in Keystage 1 and 2 visited Buckingham public library. The staff there were wonderful, explaining the whole library process to the children, discussing their favourite authors and even letting them all check out a book!
Lots of parents accompanied us to the library and some also joined us at the library in order to obtain library cards for their children. Lots more reading!!
